taper lock bushes are used to link a shaft to a sprocket or pulley mechanically. With the matching component, it is snugly secured to the shaft via its tapered surface. It allows the primary component to be flexible enough to work with a variety of shaft sizes.
The Taper Lock bush, also referred to as a Taper bush or Taper Fit bush, is a locking mechanism commonly used in Power Transmission Drives for locating pulleys, sprockets, and couplings to shafts. The Taper Lock bush is pre-bored and keyed to match the required shaft and keyway diameters.
The Taper-Lock® design has a taper angle of 8 degrees or 1-11/16” taper per foot, which minimizes end disk deflection. However, of all hub and bushing systems, it has the lowest ability to grip the shaft.
Taper Lock Hubs and Adaptors are standardized components that are used to fasten components to shafts using conical Taper bushes. The hubs or adaptors are firmly connected to the component. Once fixed, the component is capable of transmitting torque while being secured against axial displacement.
What are taper bushes used for? Taper bushes are typically used on shafts to mount pulleys, sprockets and sheaves. They are split, flangeless bushings that use screws to tighten on the shaft and provide excellent clamping force.
